This intimate performance offers a sneak peek into selections from Lewis’ opus work Harlem Voices – a musical performance about African American resilience and social justice. It is a story of love and longing based in a segregated speakeasy in Harlem and rooted in history spanning 1923-1976. Harlem Voices and Harlem Voices Revisited have been the focus of Lewis' artistic work since 2019. This iteration will feature 2 vocalists, piano, and Lewis as narrator.
To raise public awareness to African American experiences in our rural county, Lewis and the MAC have partnered to produce a significant portion of Lewis' full body of work, or a revue, called The Harlem Voices Project. The partners received a prestigious California Humanities, Humanities for All grant which requires a match.

We are in need of an additional $8000 to meet our match. Please join us and support the project so we can move closer to our goal.
The Harlem Voices Project features performances at the Soper Reese Theatre May 30-June1 with 4 vocalists and a 12-piece chamber orchestra. On Saturday March 8, an abridged version will be available for the public to experience at the Middletown Art Center. Vocalists and musicians come from the tri-county and Bay Areas, and form a powerful cast of diverse professional performers.
The event at the Tallman presents a slice of the full project and its content with an opportunity for intimate conversation with Clovice and performers.
